Mertz Gilmore Foundation: Townhouse to Meeting House
Renovated "Meeting House" provides flexible workplace and program spaces
The Mertz Gilmore Foundation, a pioneering supporter of social justice, environmental education, and dance in New York City since 1959, wondered if they had outgrown their historic townhouse near Gramercy Park. Instead, MBB worked with them to reinvent their 5-story building as a contemporary “Meeting House” for staff, visitors, grantees, board members, and allied nonprofits.
MBB’s renovation design supports the Foundation’s program needs by providing light-filled offices and flexible meeting and event spaces, all while preserving the 1856 townhouse—an emblem of the Foundation’s evolving history and identity.
